Former Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Rachel Florence Appoh, has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the relationship between the late Odo Broni and musician Daddy Lumba, specifically why Odo Broni’s family allegedly did not request proof of divorce from Daddy Lumba before the two became involved.

In an interview with Ola Michael on October 15, 2025, Appoh stated that she finds it concerning that Odo Broni’s mother didn’t verify Daddy Lumba’s marital status, suggesting that the absence of a divorce certificate inquiry may have contributed to the current family disputes following the musician’s death.

“My parents helped me. When my partner came for the marriage list, my father asked him to bring a divorce certificate before the wedding would proceed. I don’t know why Odo Broni’s didn’t request a divorce certificate. Even if Daddy Lumba deceived Odo Broni, her mother should have helped her,” Appoh said.

Appoh emphasized that Odo Broni’s mother had a responsibility to protect her daughter, particularly given Daddy Lumba’s public profile and potential for complications. She suggested that such precautions could have averted the current confusion and tension surrounding the funeral arrangements.

Appoh’s comments come as Daddy Lumba’s legal wife, Akosua Serwaa, has filed a court injunction against the late singer’s family head, Victor Kofi Owusu Boahene, Transitions Funeral Home, and Priscilla Ofori Atta (Odo Broni). Serwaa alleges she was excluded from key funeral planning decisions.

Serwaa’s legal filing accuses the family of disrespect by informing her about the planned funeral, scheduled for December 6, 2025, at the Heroes Park, Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, through social media. She asserts that as Daddy Lumba’s legal spouse, she should have been properly consulted regarding funeral arrangements.
