Gospel musician Piesie Esther has expressed unwavering confidence in her ability to win the “Artist of the Year” award if she were to compete against a secular artist like Black Sherif again.

In an interview on Hitz FM as monitored by this portal, the “Waye Me Yie” hitmaker declared her readiness and determination to secure the prestigious title in the future. “I will win Artist of the Year if I face Black Sherif again,” she stated. “I’ll exert every effort to make it happen.”

Piesie Esther, a strong contender for the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’ “Artist of the Year” award, ultimately lost to Black Sherif. Despite this, she emphasized that her nomination and the recognition she received were significant achievements in her career and that she was not discouraged by the outcome.

“The fact that I lost didn’t depress me. It was an enormous honor to be nominated in the first place, but this time, I’m ready,” she said. The gospel singer highlighted her increased efforts, including the release of impactful songs and the cultivation of a strong connection with her fans through ministry and performances.

Piesie Esther’s remarks come amidst concerns within the gospel music community regarding the genre’s increasing commercialization. Rev. Josh Laryea, a gospel musician and pastor, recently voiced concerns that gospel music is increasingly focused on self-promotion rather than spreading the message of salvation.
