Suzzy Pinamang, a second-year student at Seventh-Day Adventist Senior High School who was tragically shot in the eye by a fellow student, has been medically cleared to fully resume her education.

The breakthrough follows a successful eye surgery performed earlier in 2025 at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, fully sponsored by business mogul and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama.

On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Rafik Mahama, aide to Ibrahim Mahama, provided an update on Suzzy’s recovery via Facebook. He revealed that Suzzy underwent a comprehensive medical review at Moorfields Eye Hospital between September 10 and 16, where specialists confirmed her steady progress.

“In their report, specialists at Moorfields noted that the young student has responded positively to treatment, showing significant improvements in her vision and overall healing,” Rafik Mahama stated. “They, however, advised her to continue with routine check-ups and protective care to ensure long-term recovery.”

He added, “Importantly, doctors have now cleared her to resume schooling, and plans are underway to enroll her in a new school with full support from the Ibrahim Mahama Global Foundation to aid her continued recovery.”

Suzzy expressed heartfelt gratitude to the medical team and all those who supported her journey. “This has not been an easy road, but I thank God for life and for the doctors who have given me hope again. I am also thankful to everyone who stood by me, especially Mr. Ibrahim Mahama — he’s truly God-sent — and to everyone who has supported me with prayers and kindness,” she said.

She also acknowledged the Ghana High Commission in London for their consistent assistance, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Ambassador-in-situ and Chief of State Protocol, Gustav Kwaku Sefe Dovlo, who played key roles in facilitating her treatment arrangements in the UK.

The world-renowned Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon, Eric Ezra, who specializes in complex eye trauma, was praised for his outstanding role in Suzzy’s treatment. Under his expert care, she has made remarkable progress, with recent medical reviews confirming excellent results.

Rafik Mahama emphasized that Suzzy’s return to school will be fully supported by the Ibrahim Mahama Global Foundation.

Suzzy’s ordeal began in April 2025 when she was shot in the eye by Bernard Amoabeng, a Form Two student who allegedly brought a firearm to school. The incident sparked intense debate among students about the authenticity of the weapon.

Thanks to the combined efforts of medical professionals, philanthropists, and government officials, Suzzy is now on the path to recovery and returning to school with renewed hope for the future.
