A dramatic incident unfolded during the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, on September 16, 2025, when an interpreter for a fetish priest of Asanteman was unexpectedly slapped. The event occurred in full view of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The priest, following a dance performance to pay homage to the Asantehene, began reciting incantations that required interpretation for the King. He then instructed one of his subjects to translate his gestures and words to the Asantehene.

The interpretation appeared to be proceeding smoothly, with the Asantehene showing amusement. However, the situation quickly escalated when the priest suddenly delivered a forceful slap to the interpreter’s face. The priest reportedly claimed that the interpreter’s translation was inaccurate and demanded a more precise rendition.

Following the brief interruption, the interpreter appeared to have improved his translations, which satisfied the priest. The priest then proceeded to offer prayers for the Asantehene, circling the King’s head with a fly whisk as part of the ritual. The incident provided an unexpected and dramatic moment during the otherwise solemn funeral proceedings.
