“No NPP president until Bawumia gets his turn, better support him and stop your saboteur”- Chairman Wontumi jabs:

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, has made a bold assertion that is sure to ignite debate within the party: no other aspirant will become President on the NPP ticket until Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has had his chance.
Speaking to delegates in Atwima, Ashanti Region, Wontumi drew a parallel to American politics, citing Joe Biden’s role in paving the way for Barack Obama’s presidency. He argued that just as Biden preceded Obama, NPP members should recognize Bawumia’s “precedence” in the party’s path to governance.
Wontumi bluntly stated, “If we had fully backed Dr. Bawumia in the 2024 general election to win, his first term would have started counting. Then, your preferred candidate can take over when he is done with his term. In fact, unless Bawumia becomes President, no other aspirant in the NPP will be.” He implicitly criticized Alan Kyerematen’s past lack of support for Nana Akufo-Addo, suggesting it cost him his chance at the presidency.
Wontumi’s comments come as five prominent NPP members are vying for the flagbearer position in the 2028 general elections: Kennedy Agyapong, Mahamudu Bawumia, Kwabena Agyapong, Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum and Dr Bryan Acheampong.
