Hugh Clement A. Brown, Acting CEO of Ghana’s Forestry Commission, has filed a GH¢20 million defamation lawsuit against Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, following allegations of forgery and illegal forest reserve sales.

The suit was filed at the Accra High Court in response to accusations made by Abronye on his OHIA TV platform on July 10, 2025. Abronye alleged Brown forged official documents and authorized illegal sales of forest reserves and backdated letters to implicate the previous NPP administration in illegal mining.

Brown’s legal team denies the claims, calling them false and malicious, and argues that Abronye portrayed Brown as dishonest, fraudulent, and a thief.

Brown is seeking GH¢15 million in general damages, GH¢5 million in exemplary damages, and public apologies, including televised apologies and retractions in the Daily Graphic.

Brown, a forestry expert with over 30 years of experience, joined the Forestry Commission in 1993 and became Acting CEO in January 2025. He denies all allegations, stating the documents Abronye referenced were signed before he became CEO.
