SSNIT reaffirms commitment to pensioners, highlights digital transformation and healthcare support:

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) reaffirmed its dedication to pensioners at the 2025 Pensioners’ Engagement, assuring retirees of the Trust’s financial strength and commitment to meeting obligations.
Director-General Kwesi Afreh Biney highlighted that SSNIT paid over GH¢ 5.77 billion in pensions to more than 253,000 retirees in 2024, with over GH¢ 3.33 billion already paid to over 257,000 pensioners in the first half of 2025.
SSNIT has introduced SMS alerts for payments and is expanding its service reach with branches and co-location points. Plans for a 24/7 Virtual Branch are underway, complementing digital solutions like the Self-Service Portal and Mobile App for easy access to records and services. Home visits will continue for those with mobility challenges.
SSNIT is partnering with the Mahama Care Programme for retirees with chronic conditions and plans to launch a telemedicine service for remote areas. Free health screenings were provided at the engagement.
As SSNIT approaches its 60th anniversary, Biney emphasized the focus on digital transformation to improve transparency and efficiency.
The National Pensioners Association (NPA) praised SSNIT for its engagement and consistent pension payments, urging the Trust to maintain strong communication and protect the scheme. They also encouraged pensioners to advocate for the scheme and encourage self-employed workers to join.
