Mt. Olivet Methodist Church celebrates local foods, fosters unity and evangelism:
Ahwiaa Methodist Church goes local with traditional feast, congregants and community call for more:

The Mount Olivet Methodist Church in Ahwiaa, Kumasi, on Sunday, transformed its grounds into a vibrant celebration of local cuisine, creating a unique event that fostered unity and attracted community members.
As a method of evangelism and to strengthen bonds among church members, the church organized a day where members, grouped by their day of birth (Sunday through Saturday), prepared a specific traditional Ghanaian dish. The diverse menu included dishes such as Eto, banku and okro stew, apeprensa, fufu and ebunabunu, ampesi and kontomere stew, abete3, nuhuu, and sobolo drink.
Church members who spoke to reporters expressed their delight with the event, describing it as a special occasion that made their day memorable. They also thanked the Society Minister, Very Reverend Samuel K. Darko Yawson, the stewards and church leaders for such a wonderful program.
The celebration featured a brass band and members holding placards along the roadside, inviting passersby to join the feast, repent, and find fellowship in Christ.
Members who participated in the cooking expressed their satisfaction with the event’s organization and success, particularly enjoying the opportunity to prepare traditional dishes from their past.
Ante Akua Owusuaa, a Wednesday-born participant, shared, “Wednesday-borns prepared apreprensa, and it was fantastic. People really enjoyed the dish, especially when we served it in green leaves.”
Ante Adwoa, a Monday-born member, added, “We prepared fufu and ebunabunu, and it was very fantastic. We are happy that the church became so dynamic today, and it has united us. This has been a very effective form of evangelism.”
Several church members praised the initiative and called for similar events to be held more often, promoting both happiness and community sustainability within the church.
