Solomon Owusu, a senior communications member of the Movement for Change, has strongly criticized the government’s approach to the agriculture sector, labeling it a “lazy attitude” that is hindering the nation’s economic progress. His remarks, monitored by Newspalacegh.Com, were made on TV3 during a discussion about the recent revocation of appointments and the broader economic challenges facing Ghana.

Owusu argued that agriculture has the potential to be the backbone of the country’s struggling economy, but that government policies have consistently fallen short due to a lack of practical implementation and oversight. He specifically targeted the “Planting for Food and Jobs” program, suggesting that it failed to achieve its goals because of a disconnect between policymakers and the realities of farming.

Owusu urged a fundamental shift in how the government views and supports agriculture, advocating for a more hands-on approach. He stated that the Minister of Agriculture should prioritize practical implementation and be more frequently involved in monitoring progress on farms, rather than focusing on meetings and events held in hotels.

Owusu emphasized the importance of boosting local production to create jobs, reduce reliance on imports, and ultimately strengthen the Ghanaian economy.
