The Ashanti Regional Fire Command has launched its Education Week with a street float in the Kumasi Metro area, themed “Key to National Development and Foundation for Our Safety and Security.” Assistant Fire Officer Grade 2, Peter Tetteh, emphasized the importance of public cooperation in saving lives during an interview with the media.

Speaking after the street float, Tetteh called on the general public to actively support the Fire Service’s efforts by embracing fire safety education and taking preventative measures.

He highlighted that prank calls, providing incorrect location information during emergencies, and a general lack of engagement in fire safety practices hinder the service’s ability to respond effectively.

“Our service, our function, is to actually protect life and property,” Tetteh stated, emphasizing that public involvement is crucial in preventing fires and protecting communities. He noted that while the Fire Service is dedicated to educating the public, citizens must take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of their properties.

The Education Week aims to raise awareness in churches, workplaces, and markets about fire safety and the importance of the Fire Service’s work. Tetteh urged the public to heed the Fire Service’s advice and to treat fire safety with the utmost seriousness. The Education Week, the Fire Service hopes, will ultimately reduce fire outbreaks and protect lives and property across the Ashanti Region.
