Celebrities for NDC, a group of prominent figures in Ghana’s entertainment industry, have expressed their optimism following the NDC’s election victory, particularly highlighting their hopes for a revitalized creative arts sector under President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership.

In a press conference led by Chairman Nana Boakye Yiadom, the group celebrated the party’s win and shared their expectations for the industry’s future.

Central to their address was a call for the fulfillment of President Mahama’s promise to construct a national theater in Kumasi. The group emphasized that this theater would provide a crucial platform for local filmmakers to premiere their movies and conduct other industry-related activities, thus boosting the local entertainment industry.

Furthermore, Celebrities for NDC appealed to the incoming government to implement policies to safeguard the local film industry against illegal practices and foreign dominance. They specifically called for either a total ban or strict control on the airing of telenovelas on TV stations, citing their detrimental impact on the growth and success of Ghana’s creative arts sector.

The group expressed confidence in President Mahama’s ability to appoint a competent leader for the Ministry of Creative Arts, affirming that they would not put undue pressure on the President’s decision-making process. They however stated their willingness to offer their expertise in the selection process if the President calls for their assistance.

In their address, the celebrities also extended gratitude to various individuals and groups for their support during the election period, including NDC regional chairmen, MPs, chiefs, religious leaders, and media personalities. They also acknowledged the contributions of their fellow entertainers, and sent condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during the election period. Finally, they urged all Ghanaians to put Ghana first, promoting unity and peace.
