A senior Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has strongly criticized Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chair of the Electoral Commission (EC).

Using a figurative analysis, Professor Gyampo referred to Dr. Bossman Asare as the “Napo” within the Electoral Commission, stating that whenever he speaks, he annoys millions of people, thereby worsening the situation.

The professor’s harsh criticism of the EC official is in response to a recent statement made by the Deputy EC boss, in which he said those calling for the removal of the current Electoral Commission officials do not understand their job.

Dr. Bossman Asare, who had been asked to react to calls for his removal from office, said, “Let me put it on record that the EC doesn’t care who becomes the minority or majority in parliament. Everyone also testified that we did professional jobs with integrity, just as the election observers have already indicated. Besides, those calling for our removal do not understand our job, and that’s why they are calling for it.”

Following this statement, the Deputy EC Chair has faced serious criticism, with the latest being from Professor Ransford Gyampo.

Setting the record straight, Professor Ransford Gyampo, speaking on TV3’s Key Points, monitored by Newspalacegh.Com, said that Dr. Bossman Asare is not someone who can convince people; rather, he often annoys them, especially when he tries to explain complex or contentious issues.

“Figuratively, Bossman Asare is the ‘Napo’ of the Electoral Commission. Whenever he speaks, he annoys most people, and this worsens the situation,” Professor Gyampo observed.

He has, however, suggested that the Electoral Commission needs a more competent communicator who will be able to calm people down, even when they are furious.

“I don’t agree with the idea that the Electoral Commission should act as its own spokesperson. They need a more competent communicator who is able to convince and calm people down, even if they are angry. You see, there are some people who, whenever they speak, even at times when everyone is angry, they are able to convince them. These are the kind of communicators the Electoral Commission needs, and not Bossman Asare.”
