Supreme Court quashes re-collated results in four constituencies, reversing High Court decision

The Supreme Court has annulled the re-collated parliamentary election results for four constituencies: Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South.

This landmark ruling overturns the Electoral Commission’s (EC) re-collation and subsequent declarations for these constituencies, which were previously subject to intense legal and political challenges. This decision also reverses an earlier ruling by an Accra High Court that had ordered re-collations in nine constituencies, out of which seven ultimately favored the New Patriotic Party (NPP). However, the remaining two could not re-collated after the returning officers had declined the pink sheets provided by the NPP.

However, the Supreme Court’s decision does not affect the re-collated results for Nsawam Adoagyiri and Ahafo Ano North, which remain valid and are upheld.

The Supreme Court’s decision underscores the judiciary’s critical role in addressing electoral irregularities and ensuring adherence to constitutional and procedural requirements.

The five-member panel that delivered the ruling was presided over by Justice Gabriel Pwamang, with Justices Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu, Eric Gaewu, Henry Kwofie, and Richard Adjei-Frimpong serving as members.
