Adakabre Frimpong Manso, a prominent media personality and former running mate, has alleged that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate for the 2024 elections, did not receive financial support from the party or the presidency for his campaign.

He said NAPO self- funded his campaign, alleging huge cracks within the NPP party.

According to a report on GhanaWeb, Manso, who hosts a morning show at Despite Media, made these claims on Neat FM on December 23, 2024. He asserted that internal factions within the NPP opposed NAPO’s selection as running mate, resulting in the withholding of campaign funds.

“NAPO financed his own campaign from his personal pocket,” Manso stated, expressing surprise at the alleged lack of party backing. He also criticized the NPP, claiming that the presidency failed to allocate resources for NAPO’s campaign activities.

Adakabre further suggested that NAPO’s selection was influenced by family connections rather than a party-wide consensus, adding, “Certain people, the ‘GBKB people,’ didn’t agree with NAPO’s selection as running mate.”

He questioned why a running mate would be forced to self-finance, stating, “If it is not wickedness, why wouldn’t they have given their running mate money to campaign?”

These allegations have surfaced following the Electoral Commission’s declaration of John Mahama as the winner of the 2024 presidential election, with Dr. Bawumia as the runner-up.

The extent of the alleged internal disputes within the NPP and their impact on the recent election remains to be seen.
