A youth group within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is demanding that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) take disciplinary action against Dr. Bryan Acheampong, citing a series of alleged missteps during his recent campaign tour in the Ashanti Region. The group has listed Dr. Acheampong’s controversial statement suggesting the NPP would not hand over power as well as other actions which they believe threaten the party’s image and unity.

The youth group released a statement condemning Dr. Acheampong’s “reckless, irresponsible, and dangerously undemocratic” public pronouncements. They asserted that his “infamous” comment about not relinquishing power after the 2024 elections gave ammunition to the opposition and damaged the NPP’s reputation both domestically and internationally.

“That single utterance tarnished the NPP’s democratic credentials and made us unpopular among moderate voters,” the group stated. “It is imperative that the NEC addresses these concerns and ensures that such divisive rhetoric is not tolerated within our party.”

The group warned that Dr. Acheampong’s actions risk alienating voters and causing further divisions within the NPP as it prepares for the 2028 elections. They emphasized the need for a leader who embodies integrity, humility, and a commitment to democratic principles.

The youth group called on the NEC, the National Council, and all NPP delegates to “take our concerns seriously” and “not reward controversy with elevation.” They argued that elevating Dr. Acheampong would send the wrong message to the party and the nation, jeopardizing the NPP’s future. They insisted that the party must prioritize protecting its “soul and integrity” by selecting a leader who embodies service, humility, and integrity.
