The Ghana Police Service has apprehended ten individuals suspected of operating fraudulent online food delivery platforms that impersonated popular brands to defraud customers. The arrests were made by the Cybercrime Unit of the CID in separate operations in Sogakope and Accra.

The initial operation on October 1, 2025, in Sogakope resulted in the arrest of Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah. These arrests followed an intelligence-led investigation into the creation of fake websites and social media pages mimicking brands like Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko, as stated in a press release dated October 13, 2025.

Victims who placed orders on these fake platforms were required to make advance payments via mobile money but never received their food. In some instances, the suspects gained unauthorized access to victims’ mobile money wallets and bank accounts, stealing funds under the pretense of assisting with payment issues.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Elijah Sotama Etse, alias Pop Smoke (identified as the syndicate leader), Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli on October 12, 2025, at Haatso in Accra.

Twelve mobile phones and other digital devices believed to have been used in the fraudulent activities have been seized for forensic examination. All ten suspects are in police custody and are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, October 13, 2025.

The Police Service is urging any members of the public who believe they may have been victims of this scheme to report to their nearest police station to assist in the ongoing investigations.
