Germany-Based Scientist Nominated as Asante Mamponghene:
Nana Agyakoma Dufie II, Queen Mother of the Asante Mampong Traditional Area, has nominated Barima Nkansa Osei-Bonsu, a computational scientist residing in Germany, to succeed the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II as Paramount Chief (Mamponghene).
The nomination, made public on Monday, October 13, 2025, marks a significant step in filling the prestigious Silver Stool.
According to Plus 1 TV, the Queen Mother, responsible for selecting the Mamponghene, presented Barima Nkansa Osei-Bonsu at an outdooring ceremony.
Video footage showed her raising his hand to signify his selection, followed by celebratory acclamations. The nominee will now swear an oath of service to his people and take the Great Oath before the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to formally confirm his role.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, who passed away on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the age of 86, reigned for 29 years. Before his enstoolment in 1996, he was a lawyer, economist, and Registrar of KNUST. His reign was marked by peace and development, ending nearly two decades of chieftaincy disputes.
The Mamponghene occupies the Silver Stool, the second most powerful position in Asanteman, and serves as Vice President of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs, second only to the Asantehene.
