Following the recent graduation of approximately 824 new lawyers from the Ghana School of Law in 2025, attention has turned to which universities consistently produce top-performing alumni. A report sourced from the Ghana School of Law on October 10, 2025, and cited by GhanaWeb, reveals the universities whose alumni have most frequently received the prestigious John Mensah Sarbah Memorial Prize since 2012.

The report indicates that Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) leads the way, with alumni of its Faculty of Law having won the John Mensah Sarbah Memorial Prize more often than any other university, followed by GIMPA and the University of Ghana (UG).

Since 2012, KNUST alumni have consistently secured the top graduate award, with a remarkable streak of four consecutive wins from 2013 to 2016. Hagar Addo (2013) initiated this winning streak, becoming the first KNUST alumnus to claim the prestigious prize.

Other KNUST alumni who have received the John Mensah Sarbah Memorial Prize include Nada Belinda Aidoo (2014), Grace Esi Sackey (2015), Emmanuel Kyei (2016), Kezia Owusu Ansah (2019), Samuel Pinaman Adomako (2021), Ebenezer Addai Osei (2023), Waana-Ang, Martin (2024), and most recently, Latifa Teiya Fuseini (2025). Latifa Teiya Fuseini named 2025 overall best Ghana School of Law graduate.

GIMPA holds the second-highest number of wins, with alumni securing the award in 2017 and 2018. Isaac Danso Agyiri won the award in 2017, followed by Jaminie Janine Agovi in 2018.

Alumni from the University of Ghana, the University of Cape Coast (UCC), and the University of London have each won the award once. Kwesi Austin from the University of London was the first to receive the prize in 2012, followed by Emmanuel Yeboah Gyan from UG in 2020, and Sabina Sabia Bolsong from UCC in 2022.
