At the 30th Africa Internet Summit in Accra, MTN Ghana reaffirmed its dedication to accelerating Ghana’s digital transformation and expanding access to connectivity for all.

Ibrahim Misto, MTN Ghana’s Chief Digital Officer, delivered a goodwill message emphasizing the company’s commitment to Ghana’s digital future. Speaking on the theme “Internet in Ghana, Today and Tomorrow,” Misto reflected on Ghana’s 30-year Internet journey and highlighted MTN’s crucial role in shaping the nation’s digital landscape.

Misto emphasized that MTN Ghana’s growth mirrored the evolution of the Internet across Africa. “The story of MTN as a business is reflective of the evolution of the Internet within the African continent,” he stated. “Our services and infrastructure have advanced to support a plethora of services beyond basic voice and SMS, from data and IoT to digital, fintech, and enterprise solutions. MTN has moved from a telco to a technology company.”

The company highlighted its significant investment in infrastructure and digital inclusion, noting that over US$1 billion has been invested since 2021 to modernize its network, expand 4G coverage, and extend fiber connectivity to homes. MTN’s Mobile Money (MoMo) platform now serves over 17 million customers, driving financial inclusion and empowering millions with access to digital financial services.

Looking to the future, Misto urged a collaborative approach to build a robust digital ecosystem in Ghana. “We envision an Internet ecosystem that is faster, smarter, and more inclusive,” he said. “Through the government’s robust digital agenda, Ghana is poised to lead Africa’s digital future. But this future must be built together through collaboration between government, industry, civil society, and the youth who will shape it.”

MTN Ghana underscored its ongoing commitment to investing in connectivity, digital literacy, platforms, and innovation hubs to empower the next generation. The company’s mission, according to Misto, is to build a resilient Internet that reflects the values of access, equity, and opportunity for all Ghanaians.
