The United States Embassy in Ghana has confirmed the full restoration of visa privileges for Ghanaians, reversing restrictions imposed in July 2025. The announcement, made on September 27, 2025, confirms that Ghanaians are once again eligible for five-year multiple-entry B1/B2 visitor visas and four-year multiple-entry F1 student visas.

This follows an announcement by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who described the reversal as a “major diplomatic victory” and credited “months of high-level diplomatic negotiations” for the successful outcome. Ablakwa stated he was directly informed of the change by US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker.

The restrictions, implemented in July 2025 due to concerns over visa overstays, had limited Ghanaians to three-month single-entry visas. The restoration of full visa privileges signals a strengthening of relations between Ghana and the United States.
