MTN Ghana Engages Civil Society on Connectivity, Sustainability, and Digital Inclusion:

MTN Ghana hosted a forum with selected Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) at its Accra Head Office on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, to discuss key issues surrounding connectivity, sustainability, and digital inclusion.
The event highlighted MTN’s dedication to fostering open dialogue, transparency, and partnerships that drive digital transformation across Africa.
Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, emphasized the importance of sustainability within the company’s strategy. She cited initiatives such as banning plastic bottles and the adoption of renewable energy, noting that half of MTN Ghana’s energy consumption now comes from green sources.
Reuben Opata, Chief Technical Officer, revealed that MTN Ghana has invested over $1 billion in its network infrastructure to ensure quality connectivity. He also addressed challenges faced by the company, including frequent fiber optic cable cuts, which have resulted in repair costs amounting to $22 million this year alone.
The forum’s discussions covered a range of topics including improving accessibility for persons with disabilities, enhancing customer experience, boosting economic growth through digital technology, combating Mobile Money fraud, and ensuring affordability and inclusivity in digital services. Participants underscored the need for ongoing collaboration between MTN and CSOs.
Madam Adwoa Wiafe stressed the critical role CSOs play in shaping policy and influencing public discourse as the telecommunications sector evolves. Meanwhile, Madam Georgina Asare Fiagbenu reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to transparent communication and active stakeholder engagement to build trust and foster cooperation.
This engagement demonstrates MTN Ghana’s proactive approach to working with civil society in advancing digital inclusion and sustainable development in the country.
