Seven years after the scandalous collapse of Menzgold Ghana, the Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold (CACM) is issuing a desperate plea to the government, highlighting the ongoing tragedy and demanding immediate action. In a somber statement released today, CACM marks the anniversary of the collapse, a catastrophe that has left hundreds of thousands of Ghanaians financially ruined and emotionally scarred.

The group laments the staggering human cost of the crisis, revealing that at least 240 customers have died since the company’s demise, with some tragically taking their own lives out of desperation. Countless others are battling severe illnesses and the crushing weight of financial ruin.

CACM acknowledges the government’s previous pledges, including the promise to appoint a Receiver and the efforts made by President Akufo-Addo and his ministers. However, they argue that progress has been agonizingly slow. The ongoing criminal prosecution, once promising a swift resolution, is now proceeding at a “snail pace,” prompting the group to urge the Chief Justice and the courts to expedite the trial and deliver justice without further delay.

“We are dying here,” a spokesperson for CACM stated, “the president must demonstrate compassion and act decisively by including a financial bailout for Menzgold victims in the upcoming budget. We cannot endure another year of broken promises and shattered lives.

CACM reiterates its call for the immediate appointment of a “Receiver” and implores the President to be bold in providing financial relief, warning that the continued inaction will only prolong the suffering and deepen the despair of countless Ghanaians.
