The Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASSM) is calling on the government and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to extend the 2-week deadline for excavator registration. The association believes the short timeframe may pose challenges for its members.

GNASSM’s Ashanti District Secretary, Mr. Adu Gyamfi, expressed support for the DVLA’s initiative to regulate heavy-duty equipment and combat illegal mining and environmental destruction.

However, he noted that some members may need more time to gather necessary documents due to purchase and payment agreements.

Mr. Adu Gyamfi commended the DVLA’s proactive approach and advised excavator owners, especially GNASSM members, to comply with the order, warning that failure to do so may result in adverse consequences.

The association’s plea aims to ensure its members have sufficient time to register their excavators and avoid penalties.
