Wendy Adjeley Adjei’s remarkable journey from Ghana to the United States is a testament to her resilience and purpose. After earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Cape Coast, she secured full scholarships to pursue her master’s and Ph.D. in Health Communication at prestigious US universities.

Her research focuses on patient-provider communication, maternal and child health, and birth equity. Wendy’s work extends beyond academia, serving on the Kansas Birth Equity Network and volunteering with the American Red Cross. She also advocates for student-centered policies as Director of Legislative Affairs for the Graduate Professional Council.

Wendy’s current study, “The Emotional Legacy of Memorable Messages,” explores the impact of communication on maternal birthing experiences in the US. Her findings highlight the significance of emotionally attuned communication during childbirth, revealing that healthcare providers’ words and silences can have lasting emotional impacts on mothers.

To address this, Wendy proposes the Emotionally Attuned Communication Protocol (EACP), a trauma-informed framework designed to equip healthcare providers with relational and equity-driven tools for care. Her research calls for a system-wide shift in US healthcare, emphasizing the importance of treating every word, silence, and moment of care as emotionally consequential.

Through her work, Wendy Adjeley Adjei is transforming the definition of care, dignity, and voice in the birthing experience, both in the US and globally.
