Dr. Nana Agyenim Boateng aka Gyataba, founder and leader of the United Front Party (UFP), has strongly condemned the alleged storming of the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, aka Chairman Wontumi’s house by alleged national security operatives, describing it as a breach of the rule of law and an act of political intimidation.
He further advised the government to redirect its efforts and resources towards resolving the ongoing conflict in Bawku.
Gyataba was reacting to reports of the alleged raid, asserting that such actions undermine the principles of due process and democratic governance. He emphasized that if Chairman Wontumi is suspected of any wrongdoing, the appropriate course of action is to follow legal procedures.
Following Gyataba’s remarks, supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) present at the scene also expressed their dismay. They argued that Chairman Wontumi, who has never held a government position, has done nothing to warrant such treatment.
One supporter, identified as 2 Pac, recounted the events, stating that a group comprising military, police, and national security personnel stormed the premises, demanding to know Chairman Wontumi’s location. “We told them he was not there, yet they were forcing their way in,” 2 Pac stated.
Another eyewitness, Sika Wo Bush, condemned the incident, highlighting reports of a journalist being attacked for allegedly filming the scene.
Both the NPP supporters and Dr. Boateng joined together to advise the government to cease what they called “political witch-hunting” and instead channel its energy and resources towards finding a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict. They argued that addressing the security challenges in Bawku should be a higher priority than pursuing perceived political opponents.
