“Let the cedi appreciation affect the lives of Ghanaians, and stop the noise”- Bekwai MP slams government:

Bekwai Member of Parliament Ralph Poku-Adusei is urging the government to take steps to ensure the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi translates into tangible benefits for ordinary citizens struggling with the soaring cost of living.
Speaking on Accra-based Asaase Radio, the NPP MP voiced concerns that the cedi’s gains were not yet being felt by everyday Ghanaians, particularly when it comes to the price of food.
“Let the cedi appreciation affect the lives of the people,” the MP stated. “Today, as we speak, food is the most expensive thing in Ghana.”
Poku-Adusei highlighted the crippling cost of even basic meals, saying: “One meal of fufu can cost you someone’s salary.” He added, “The NDC should not only take credit for the cedi’s appreciation but must also ensure that these gains are reflected in the prices of food and other necessities.”
The Ghanaian cedi has experienced a notable recovery in recent weeks, strengthening significantly against major trading currencies like the US dollar after a period of sharp depreciation. Government officials, particularly within the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), have attributed this resurgence to successful fiscal policies, increased foreign exchange inflows, improved investor confidence, and tighter monetary controls implemented by the Bank of Ghana.
While the government has touted the cedi’s performance as a sign of economic recovery, Poku-Adusei argues that the ultimate measure of progress lies in its impact on the daily lives of Ghanaians, and he is calling on the government to actively work to ensure that citizens feel the benefits of the currency’s strength.
