Concerned NPP supporters in Kumasi call for new presidential candidate, suggest Kennedy Agyapong

A group calling itself “Concerned NPP Supporters” has held a press conference in Kumasi’s Bantama Market to express their concerns about the party’s future leadership.
Spokesperson Mr. Lawrence Adu stated that the group believes the NPP needs a new presidential candidate for the 2028 elections.
The group, representing NPP members from various professions in the Ashanti region, cited the party’s performance in the 2024 elections as a key reason for their call. They argued that the results indicated a need for a fresh perspective and leadership.
Mr. Adu stated that the group felt Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidacy in 2024 did not achieve the desired results, particularly in the Northern regions. He mentioned concerns about the loss of parliamentary seats and decreased vote share in some areas.
The group also suggested that the NPP should consider candidates who resonate well with the general public. They specifically mentioned Kennedy Agyapong as a potential option. Mr. Adu explained that the group believes Mr. Agyapong’s approach may appeal to a broader range of voters.
The Concerned NPP Supporters urged party leaders to carefully consider the views of the grassroots members as they make decisions about the party’s future direction. They emphasized the importance of selecting a candidate who can unite the party and improve its chances of success in the 2028 elections.
