Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the presidential spokesperson and Minister-designate for Government Communications, has issued a strong call for transparency and accountability, urging the media and the public to actively scrutinize the government while it is in power.

Speaking on Accra-based TV3, as monitored by Newspalacegh.com, Kwakye emphasized that the new administration under President John Dramani Mahama is committed to tolerating all forms of criticism and would not repeat the mistakes of the past.

“We are ready to welcome all forms of corrections,” Kwakye stated, underscoring that the government is accountable to the Ghanaian people who voted them into power. He made it clear that, unlike the previous Akufo-Addo/Bawumia-led NPP government, the Mahama-led NDC administration would never gag or attack individuals who criticize them. He asserted that their government was committed to protecting free speech.

Kwakye reiterated the government’s commitment to public service, emphasizing humility and a recognition that they are “ordinary citizens” who are privileged to serve. He stressed that their positions should not breed arrogance or a detachment from the realities of the people they serve. He stated that the government is mindful of the economic challenges facing Ghanaians.

He urged the media and civil society organizations to hold the government accountable. He also called for the government’s critics to play their watchdog roles effectively.

Kwakye cautioned his own party, the NDC, against arrogance and complacency. He referred to the past electoral performance of the NPP as a cautionary tale, noting that the electorate is discerning and will hold the government accountable for its performance. He emphasized the need for the NDC to learn from the MPP’s recent electoral experience, and stressed the fact that the public had handed the MPP a humiliating defeat.

He stressed the need to actively address the economic realities of the country and stated that the new government would be led by empathy, action, and respect for the public.

In conclusion, Felix Ofosu Kwakye presented a vision of a government that is not only open and transparent but also deeply committed to serving the needs of the Ghanaian people with humility and integrity.
