Nana Asare Bediako, popularly known as “Obama,” has secured a spot among the final three candidates shortlisted for the position of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Mayor.

The former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Atwima Nwabiagya district was selected by the Ashanti Regional vetting committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from an initial pool of eight aspirants.

The other two shortlisted candidates are Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi and Martin Asamoah Atuahene.

Following the vetting process, “Obama” expressed confidence in his ability to secure the position. He emphasized his commitment to the NDC, highlighting that he was among the first in the region to brand his vehicle with NDC colors after the 2020 election, which he did for three years.

“We’ve fought hard to ensure the NDC’s return to power,” Obama stated in an interview with the media. “Being a KMA mayor needs someone with experience, hard work, and respect for the elderly. I know with my humility and qualities in the aforementioned attributes, I definitely qualify for the position.”

He touted his previous experience as MCE of Atwima Nwabiagya, where he was recognized as the best MCE in the Ashanti Region, and second-best nationwide. He pledged that, if given the opportunity, he would work even more diligently to bring about positive change in Kumasi.

“I have had the opportunity to work with traders, drivers, and many other social workers. When it comes to managing their affairs to bring sanity and development, I’m number one,” Obama asserted. He added that he has worked with chiefs, journalists, and other leadership groups, and is confident in his ability to collaborate with various stakeholders.

Obama also challenged the notion that the NDC lacks support in the Ashanti region. “We have the support, but you need someone who is able to garner many of such votes for the party, and that kind of person is me,” he declared. He emphasized that his experience and ability to connect with people made him the ideal candidate to mobilize votes for the NDC in the region.

He concluded by reiterating his dedication and belief in his potential to transform Kumasi.
