Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the Presidential Spokesperson and Minister-designate for Government Communications, has delivered a powerful message emphasizing accountability, humility, and service as core principles of the new administration.

In a recent address on TV3’s Key Point monitored by Newspalacegh.Com, Mr. Kwakye strongly stated that the NDC government will not tolerate disrespect towards the public and that they are deeply aware of the challenges facing Ghanaians.

“The people of Ghana are our bosses,” Kwakye asserted, highlighting that government officials are merely ordinary citizens given an opportunity to serve. He stressed the need for humility in office and vowed that the administration would not operate with an exaggerated view of their own importance.

Kwakye addressed concerns about the government’s size and focus by emphasizing that not all ministerial positions would need deputies. He stressed that appointments should be strategic and based on the specific needs of each ministry and not merely a quota system.

He further emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency, stating that all ministers would open their doors to the public, and that the government would not make excuses, acknowledging the magnitude of problems that existed prior to their assumption of power.

Kwakye sharply criticized the previous administration’s economic policies, pointing to the drastic increase in the cost of living as an example of the hardship faced by Ghanaians. He cited the rise in the monthly cost of transactions to demonstrate the real-world impact of poor economic management. He also condemned the previous administration’s denial of the economic crisis and its use of misleading statistics, calling it disrespectful to the suffering public.

He used the story of a wealthy industrialist Mr. Kama to illustrate that even those who were previously successful are suffering due to the current economic downturn. Kwakye stressed that if Kama was suffering, the hardship faced by the average Ghanaian is unimaginable.

Kwakye strongly advocated for freedom of speech, stating that the right of Ghanaians to criticize the government is fundamental and cannot be taken away. He rejected the notion that anyone, including Supreme Court judges, MPs, ministers, or even the President, should be above public scrutiny. He also noted that while the government welcomes praise, it would not thrive on it. Instead, the government was committed to being held accountable for its actions.

Kwakye shared an anecdote about a leader’s disrespectful behavior to illustrate the administration’s intolerance for such behavior. He reiterated President Mahama’s position that there would be zero tolerance for disrespect and mistreatment of Ghanaians. He stated that the government would be action-oriented and would be addressing the problems they were elected to solve.

Kwakye also acknowledged that his appointment was based on his political alignment with President Mahama, and not because of any inherent superiority, reiterating that his work is not more important than others, like Professor Gyampo, who are working to develop the next generation of professionals. He noted that his position was by no means better than any other, and it was the public that was the real “boss”.
