Kumasi Mayor Position: Female aspirant calls on Mahama to increase women’s representation in local governance:

Lawyer Mary Nsiah Asare, one of eight aspirants vying for the Kumasi Mayor position, has expressed optimism and urged President John Dramani Mahama to appoint more women as Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
Speaking to the media after her vetting process, Lawyer Mary Nsiah emphasized that increased female representation in governance is crucial.
Lawyer Nsiah expressed her admiration for President Mahama’s previous decision to nominate Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang as his running mate, now the Vice President, stating it was an action she greatly appreciated.
She added that she believes appointing more women at the MMDA levels is important for achieving gender balance in governance.
In addition to her advocacy for more female representation, Lawyer Mary Nsiah highlighted her qualities as a “unifier” and “hardworking” individual. She also pledged to address various challenges within the Kumasi Metropolis, including those affecting markets and lorry terminals, while collaborating with all stakeholders to promote development.
The female lawyer specifically mentioned her commitment to completing abandoned projects, including market projects in areas such as Krofrom and Kejetia Phase 2.
