Following the recent fire at Kantamanto Market in the Greater Accra Region, allegations have surfaced linking prominent figures of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, to the incident. Some Ghanaians have speculated that the recent market fires may be a deliberate attempt to pressure President John Dramani Mahama.
In an interview on GhOne TV on January 12, 2025, Chairman Wontumi responded to these allegations.
He vehemently denied any involvement in the Kantamanto market fire or any other market fires in Ghana, asserting his innocence and dismissing the claims as false and damaging to his reputation.
Chairman Wontumi stated that he will not tolerate attempts to tarnish his name, dignity, family, or political party. He announced that he intends to take legal action against anyone who accuses him of being involved in the market fires. He also cautioned against dragging the NPP into the allegations, warning of “scary consequences.”
GhOne TV, confirming the interview, stated, “Chairman Wontumi denies involvement in the market burning incident. Threatens legal action against anyone to link him to such allegations.”
Chairman Wontumi has emphasized that his primary focus is on working towards the NPP’s return to power in the next general elections.
