Tension flares as Dome Kwabenya parliamentary race faces rerun despite NDC 165 lead:
The Dome Kwabenya constituency is on a knife edge after provisional results show the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Elikplim Akurugu, narrowly leading the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Mike Oquaye Jnr by just 165 votes.
The official results, which have not yet been declared, show the NDC candidate with 50,732 votes against the NPP’s 50,567 votes.
However, the final outcome remains uncertain as a likely rerun of the election at one outstanding polling station is anticipated. This is due to the fact that neither the NDC nor the NPP possesses the pink sheet for that particular polling station.
The close margin in this constituency makes it a critical battleground in the current political landscape, and a rerun could shift the final outcome significantly.
