Renowned Ghanaian broadcaster Randy Abbey has resigned as Managing Director of Ignite Media Group (IMG), parent company of Metro TV, effective December 31, 2024. He has also stepped down from his position on the IMG board.

While Abbey’s future role hosting Metro TV’s “Good Morning Ghana” remains uncertain, a farewell ceremony was held at the station’s Accra headquarters to acknowledge his significant contributions to Ghanaian media.

Abbey’s resignation comes after a recent on-air attack by unidentified assailants. While he has not publicly linked the attack to his decision, speculation abounds.

Beyond his media career, Abbey is a prominent figure in Ghanaian football, serving on the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council and as president of Kpando Hearts of Lions.

He is a recipient of the Order of the Volta (2006) for his contributions to media and a Grand Medal for his role in Ghana’s 2006 World Cup qualification.

Abbey’s departure marks a significant change at Metro TV, but his legacy in both media and sports remains strong. His future endeavors are eagerly anticipated.
