Following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) disappointing performance in its Ashanti Region stronghold during the 2024 elections, intense criticism has been leveled at Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi.

A prominent member of the NPP’s Invisible Forces, Alhassan Seidu (“Odenkey”), has accused Wontumi of playing a significant role in the party’s electoral setback.

In a scathing interview on Radio XYZ monitored by this reporter, Odenkey called Wontumi a “satan to the Ashanti Region,” alleging that his leadership, along with that of former President Akufo-Addo, sabotaged the party’s chances. He described near-fatal consequences from his association with Wontumi, illustrating the deep divisions within the party. Odenkey further threatened a demonstration against Wontumi, vowing to confront him should he attempt to visit the regional office.

Odenkey criticized Wontumi’s alleged high-handed leadership style, claiming disregard for party procedures and internal structures. He accused Wontumi of stinginess, citing paltry GHC50 handouts to party loyalists. He also linked the defeat to a purported prophecy from Meccan Imams predicting only Alan Kyerematen could secure victory, a warning he alleges was ignored by prominent party figures, including National Third Vice Chairman Osman Masawudu (“Chairman Buga”).

Adding to the accusations, Odenkey claimed Wontumi disrespected senior NPP members like Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (“NAPO”). These accusations underscore the growing unrest within the NPP, raising concerns about further internal conflict as the party navigates its future.
