Kumawood actress Mama Kali has accused fellow actress Matilda Asare of misappropriating funds provided by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during their recent election campaign. In a recent interview, Mama Kali detailed what she described as a betrayal that she believes contributed to the party’s electoral defeat.

Mama Kali recounted that she and other Ashanti Region NPP loyalists faced significant financial hardship during campaigning. Following the election, they sought support from party officials to establish small businesses, receiving a positive response and a promise of funding.

However, Mama Kali alleges that Matilda Asare, entrusted with collecting and distributing GH¢310,000, distributed only GH¢2,000 to each member, including herself. She claims that Asare kept the remaining funds. “Matilda Asare deceived us,” Mama Kali stated, expressing her anger and frustration. “The work we did for the party and the difficulty we went through was not easy, but Matilda tricked and deceived us. She is part of the reason why NPP lost the elections,” she alleged.

The allegations have sparked widespread debate within the NPP and the public, questioning the management of substantial campaign funds and raising concerns about accountability within the party. Mama Kali’s emotional account highlights the struggles often faced by grassroots supporters and underscores the need for transparency in political finance.

Matilda Asare is yet to respond publicly to the accusations. Calls for a thorough investigation into the matter have emerged from within the NPP, demanding fairness and transparency to address the concerns raised and restore faith among party members. The incident underscores the crucial importance of trust and accountability within political organizations. The revelation serves as a stark reminder of the need to address the grievances of grassroots supporters to prevent future occurrences
